More info

Our TGR-1000 ultrasonic thickness gauge can measure the thickness of materials such as metals, plastics, glass and types of rubber, all in a non-destructive manner.

It is constructed with a metal case to suit the punishing conditions of workshops and sites.

The main purpose of a thickness gauge is for non destructive measurement of the thickness of materials such to determine if any wear or corrosion present.

If for instance, a pipe is tested and has a thickness that is less than expected then it would be considered likely that corrosion is occuring and thereby identify the need for repair work.

It is particularly useful for testing boat/ship hulls or pipe, pipeline, ducting, automotive parts etc.

The method by which an ultrasonic thickness gauge works is that a ultrasonic wavelength pulse is sent from the transducer probe through the surface and echoes off the back wall of the object being measured.  How fast soundwaves can travel through the material is known as its sound velocity.  The distance is calculated by using the sound velocty and measuring the time taken for the pulse echo to be received the gauge.  The benefit with this method is that a material does not have to be cut to measure its thickness.

The standard supply probe is 5MHz frequency to suit most common materials.  There are optional probes available to suit less common applications.

  • PROBE OPTIONS

    Mini Probe

The mini probe is well suited for testing on curved surfaces with at least a 15mm diameter. The mini probe has a 6mm diameter face which reduces the overhang distance from the curve which allows for better coupling with the surface being tested.  This probe is also suitable for testing thinner materials as it has a higher frequency of 6MHz and therefore a shorter wavelength.

    2MHz Probe

The 2MHz probe by using a lower frequency than the standard 5MHz has a longer wavelength that assists obtaining results on thicker samples and high attenuating material such as rubber and plastics.

    High Temperature Probe

The high temperature probe is fitted with PTFE grip housing that allows the probe to be used on hot surfaces up to 300°C.
