The standard supply with a portable hardness tester, to cover most uses, is with a D-Type impact device. For a wider range of testing abilities and for certain material types, weights and thicknesses, it may be neccesary to change to a different type of impact device suitable to the sample being measured. 

These impact devices are interchangable. For use with an additional impact device the LHT-200 has auto recognition which detects that a different device is connected and applies relevant settings which become visible when the different device is connected.

Different devices and their applications are as follows:

D Type -  Used in 90% of applications the d-type impact device is the standard device supplied.  It works on material that is greater than 5mm of thickness and good for general use.

C Type - Suitable for light and small work pieces from about 1mm of thickness depending on the material.  This impact device is also better for testing materials with surface hardened layers as the C-type applies a lower force when testing.

DC Type - Designed for reduced access applications.  Shorter than the standard unit it has all the functionality of the D-type impact device. 

DL Type - Designed to gain access in narrow areas that other gauges cannot.  This unit can be used for testing gear teeth, long channels, holes and recesses.

G Type - Designed for rough, heavy objects.  It has a heavy duty device that works on an uneven, unpolished surface such as castings.
