Starr Instruments RTD-200 Surface Roughness Tester suits users with varied range of surface testing requirements and includes detailed data analysis.

Generally the RTD-200 is used to test the roughness of surface finishes, both raw and machined in work shops or laboratory.  Surface roughness is important to measure quality and manage the manufacturing process.  If a surface is too rough it can wear quickly with a higher co-efficient of friction and by making surfaces smoother than needed it can create additional expense in the manufacturing process.  

A great example of use is to check the condition of expensive moulds used in the production of glass bottles. The surface of these moulds needs to be closely monitored to ensure a high quality, clear bottle is formed and can be easily removed from the moulds after pouring. An Ra gauge can quickly measure the roughness of the mould to allow a decision as to if a mould needs to be refinished or not.

The RTD-200 works by a running a diamond tipped stylus over a surface to trace the profile of the material. Current induction transmits a signal that the device uses to produce the measurements. The measurements are available in many profiles including Ra, Rz, Rq, Rp, Rv, R3z amongst others. Results are displayed on the screen and can be saved to memory and transferred to your PC for further detailed reporting and analysis.
