FGD series Digital Force Gauge from Starr Instruments is designed to be used for a wide range of industrial applications.

Common applications are in manual handling and OH&S to determine safe work load limits such as measuring the forces when pushing and or pulling materials or handling equipment such as pallet trucks, lift trucks, trolleys, bins, fire doors etc. 

Other examples of use include the measuring of forces required to use items such as latches, levers, doors, windows etc, as well as testing the force required to open packaging for food and beverage, FMCG, pharmaceutical and many more.  This testing indicates the suitability of the products for their intended use. These items need to be strong enough for their purpose but also still be able to be used by consumers.  No point buying a packet of chips for a quick snack if you can't easily open it nor do you want it to fall apart by being too easy to open. 

Features include metal casing for durability, large auto-reversible LCD display that is easy to read and a highly accurate, integrated load cell to measure the applied force in a push or pull direction with high accuracy. Touch sensitive buttons provide easy operation and the gauge is protected with audible and visual overload alarms to reduce the chance of operator misuse and potential damage. Also included is a large memory of 1000 entries and USB cable for data transfer.  

Force capacities available range from 2N (200gf) up to 1000N (100kgf). When choosing a gauge it is important to chose one with suitable capacity to ensure the load cell is not overloaded easily during testing. If the resolution is suitable to your testing requirements, it is recommended to move up to the next capacity model as a precaution.

An example of chosing a suitable gauge is, if you are testing around 40-45kgf, it would be prudent to consider the 100kgf version as when testing with the 50kgf version it would be operating around 90% of its capacity.  

Please note, low test forces (200gf to 5kgf) are very sensitive and the load cell can be very easily overloaded, even through accidental impact by a thumb or forefinger!

Unless the resolution is specifically required, play it safe and move up a range.

* FGD-1000N model uses a solid ring attachment as standard, instead of a hook attachment for tensile testing due to safety reasons.

Optional attachments to assist with measurement of force are available including a T-handle grip for manual handling and OH&S, large hooks for bulkier objects, pull grips for wires, pin gauge for puncture penetration test, a grips for peel and flexure tests along with many more. For thorough testing we also have available stands to mount the force gauge and assist with consistent load application for highly repeatable, accurate testing.
